The application process can be overwhelming!
Many times families are not sure what to do and how to start the Medicaid process when their loved one has to be placed into a nursing home unexpectedly. There are times that the family is unsure of what mom or dad has or how to even begin to locate certain paperwork that will be needed to process the Long Term Care Medicaid application. Some families choose to try and handle the application on their own, but after receiving many requests for documents that they didn't know existed, they are denied for not providing information or could not keep up with the deadlines while trying to make sure mom or dad is placed in the right nursing home or supportive living facility. There is another path available! Saric Consulting can guide you through the process and prepare each individual for their specific needs. Each family is different and each application will have its own story.

How it works
Many residents and their families realize they need help with the application process after they have started the process and are overwhelmed by the numerous notices and requests they receive from different agencies throughout the State. There are families in a crisis state, some have already been denied and not sure what to do next. When Saric Consulting is involved from the first step, the process is clear and the family is aware of what to expect. We will spend time discussing what will happen and how to handle each step along the way. It is beneficial to have Saric Consulting involved from the beginning, before property is transferred or life insurance is surrendered. Some actions are irrevocable and once it is done, there is no going back and that may cause of penalty or a denial of the application.
What you should know
Some facilities do assist families with the application process, but not all facilities are able to follow through with the application and the family is left trying to finish the process and obtain that final decision by the State. Most prefer to let the facility concentrate on caring for their loved one and let Saric Consulting handle the application. Sara and her team have processed applications for over 8 years and received endless hours of training and have answered almost every question imaginable.
Here to help
Sara and her team have bonded with the families, cried with the families and rejoiced when they were able to return home. Saric Consulting can spend the time needed to make sure that all parties understand and explain what is needed and why. This makes a difference when trying to transition from home to long term care and our goal is to make sure that everyone gets the help they need.
Cost
Every application is different as each and every one of our families have different issues to be addressed. For this reason, the fee for the Medicaid application process has been simplified to an hourly rate, which is included in the retainer collected at the initial consultation. Please call the office to inquire on the current hourly rate and retainer.
Collecting a retainer up front allows some residents to reduce excess assets prior to applying and makes them one step closer to being eligible. Since each case is different, it is unknown how many hours it will take before the case is approved. Most cases have a 5 year audit and it can be difficult to get the bank statements for the entire 5 year period. Some have annuities and retirement funds that may need to be cashed out or life insurance that may to be surrendered. There have been many changes regarding prepaid burials that need to be explained to the family and reviewed with the funeral home. Each case is reviewed, assessed and explained with the resident and/or family. Saric Consulting will work with the third parties to make sure that each case is approved and your loved one can get the care they deserve.
If there is the need for travel, the fee is $.75/mile from either the Belleville or Springfield office, whichever is closer. This could include a meeting at the facility (if this is easier on the resident) or a trip to the court house to obtain documents needed for the application, or a bank to get 5 years of account statements. We will try and do as much as we can without traveling and work with the resident and their family to gather the information they have available, but there are often times that no one has the documents on hand. We will try to obtain them via email, fax or US mail, but sometimes we must go to the source of funds to obtain the documentation needed.
For families who find themselves in a situation where they have already submitted the application and need help along the way, we charge an hourly consultation fee, please call for current rates. We can help keep you on track, pick up where the resident or family left off, or just help gather all the missing documents to make sure it is all verified and ready for submission to the State agency. If the case has already been denied and the family is not sure what to do next, we can request the case to be reopened or appeal the decision and fight for the resident to ensure everyone receives the assistance they need.
